Nationally Recognized Expert Lecturer and Consultant on Learning Disorders and AD/HD
Kevin T. Blake was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduated from Cascia Hall Preparatory School in 1976. He attended the University of Notre Dame, in Notre Dame, Indiana where he graduated with a Bachelor of Art in Psychology in 1980. Next, he attended Oklahoma State University (OSU), in Stillwater, Oklahoma and graduated with honors with a Master of Science degree in Community counseling from the Department of Applied Behavioral Studies in Education of the college of Education at OSU. He graduated from OSU in 1989 with a Doctorate of Philosophy in Counseling Psychology, again from the Department of Applied Behavioral Studies in Education of the college of education at OSU. Prior to completing his doctorate in psychology, he completed a one-year pre-doctoral internship at the University of Arizona's Student Counseling Center, in Tucson, Arizona. In the early 1990's Dr. Blake opened an independent practice in Tucson, Arizona specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of adults with learning disorders, nonverbal learning disorders, Asperger's Disorder and AD/HD.
Dr. Blake has served as a board member of Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorders (CHADD) of Tucson, the Arizona Branch of the International Dyslexia Association, the Mental Health Committee of the Learning Disabilities Association of America, and the Southern Arizona Psychological Association. Dr. Blake has also been an advisory board member of the Arizona Branch of the International Dyslexia Association, Arizona Learning Disabilities Association, and Tucson Educational Services. Additionally, Dr. Blake was a member of the LEAD 2000 Congress that advised the United States Congress regarding issues faced by learning disabled citizens in the 21st Century.
Dr. Blake was a consultant with the University of Arizona' Disability Resource Center, in Tucson, Arizona. He trained staff, aided in policy development and programs for learning disabled and AD/HD college students and employees at the university. In addition, Dr. Blake has consulted periodically with Sierra Tucson, a dual diagnosis inpatient treatment facility outside Tucson, Arizona, regarding the diagnosis and treatment of AD/HD individuals with substance abuse disorders.
Dr. Blake has written articles in such publications as Attention!, the magazine of CHADD, Perspectives of the International Dyslexia Association, and LDA Newsbriefs of the Learning Disabilities Association of America.
Dr. Blake is considered a local omnibudsperson regarding issues facing those with learning disorders, nonverbal learning disorders, Asperger's disorder and AD/HD in Southern Arizona. He has lectured frequently across the country about these disorders and in 2004; he joined Cross Country Education of Brentwood, Tennessee as a lecturer on topics of social skills and reading disorder-dyslexia.
Dr. Blake lives with his wife, who is also a psychologist, and their two dogs in Tucson, Arizona.
